Today’s Teaser Tuesday sentences come from the book we chose to read this month in my book club. Station Eleven is a dark, post-apocalyptic novel by Emily St. John Mandel. I have barely started the first few chapters, and so far I haven’t been able to make up my mind about this novel, but I’m curious to see where it leads me.

“When he woke later in the morning, there was an instant when he didn’t know where he was. He had never in his life been so cold.”

Today’s Teaser Tuesday sentences come from the book The Night We Said Yes by Lauren Gibaldi. I received this book from Owl Crate, a monthly book subscription specialized in YA books. This month’s theme was friendship and The Night We Said Yes tells the story of first loves, friendships and secrets.

” I thought about Meg’s compromise. It was better. Underwear was just like a bikini, right? It was a night to have fun, forget about the past and move forward.”

Today’s Teaser Tuesday sentence come from The Shadow Prince by Bree Despain. This is book one of the Into The Dark series. I got this book at a giveaway, and I have just started reading it. So far it seems good. The review of this book will be posted shortly.

There I see a young female, sitting against a strangely shaped tree. She cradles a large object on her knees, and strums the strings that stretch from its wide base up a long wooden neck. The object reminds me of the pictographs I often pass by in the murals that cover the walls of the palace. It vaguely resembles a lyre–the great weapon the Traitor had used to deceive Hades all those centuries ago.”

Today’s Teaser Tuesday sentence was extracted from Nathan Filer’s The Shock of the Fall. The premise of this book has really sparked my interest. I’m not a mental health or behavior nurse, but I’m really interested in this book. The review will come soon. For now just a teaser.

“Inside my head is a story. I hoped if I told it, it might make more sense to me. It’s hard to explain, but if I could only remember everything, If I could write my thoughts on sheets of paper, something to hold with my hands then–I don’t know. Nothing probably. Like I say, it’s hard to explain.”

The Bone Season

Today’s Teaser Tuesday sentences were extracted from the book The Bone Season. I had been meaning to read this novel since it first came out in 2013, and just never got around doing it. I remember all the hype surrounding this book and the fact that the author, Samantha Shannon, was only twenty-one years old when she wrote this debut novel. I’m really liking it so far, and I’ll be posting a review soon.

“…I didn’t like the thought of sleeping out here–not with this many spirits in the air. There were more of them now, and it was getting colder. I stripped off my wet boots and socks, put them out to dry besides the flame, and zipped myself into the sleeping bag. It wasn’t warm, even with my jacket and gilet, but it was better than nothing.

Warden tapped his fingers on his knee, staring into the darkness. His eyes were two live coals, alert for danger. I turned over and looked up at the moon. How dark the world looked. How dark, and how cold.”

Luckiest Girl Alive

Today’s Teaser Tuesday sentence comes from the book my monthly book club chose for the month of June. I’ve been running a book club for quite some time and one of the traits of lasting book clubs, in my humble opinion, is allowing members to have a say in the choice of books. Every month members suggest three to four titles and we vote on the favorite one. So when The Luckiest Girl Alive was the winner I was a little surprised. We had read The Girl on The Train and Gone Girl not that long ago, but it seems my club just can’t get enough of these edge-of-your-seat psychological thrillers. I have barely started this book and I’m hoping it will be a cool ride. Reviews will be posted soon.

“I fixed on a spot beyond Andrew’s shoulder and tried to think of a way to explain.’With Like, I feel this…this crushing loneliness sometimes. And it’s not his fault’–I swiped a finger under my eye–‘he’s not a bad person, he just doesn’t get it. But then I think, Well, who would? Get this nasty piece of my life?’ I’m not easy, and maybe this is the best I can hope for.”
